Presented by: The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust
Venue: Byham Theater - [ View Seating Chart ]
Sunday, March 15 - Sunday, March 15, 2009

For over four decades Bernice Johnson Reagon has been a powerful voice for freedom and justice. The founder of the venerated women’s acappella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock, Bernice Johnson Reagon has a voice raised in song, born in the struggle during the Civil Rights Movement of the 50s and 60s. A composer, song leader, scholar and producer, perhaps no one better illustrates the transformative power and instruction of traditional African American music and cultural history than Bernice Johnson Reagon. Celebrate Women’s History Month with poetry and verse featuring a spoken word performance by Bernice Johnson Reagon.

The performance will also include local poets Jan Beatty, CM Burroughs, Vanessa German, Kellee Maize and Stacey Waite
